CENTRA I AM WOMAN EVENTS
For many years, Centra's Women and Children's Services has sponsored two free events each year to highlight women and their health needs.
Past events include:
- The Spring 2006 I AM WOMAN seminar featured Dr. Nygard and Carolyn Thompson, RN, speaking on the heart health of women. The program was a huge success, attended by approximately 300 people.
- The Fall 2006 I AM WOMAN seminar featured Christine Marraccini, MD, obstetrician/gyneclologist, Women's Health Services of Central Virginia. She discussed the importance of pap smears, abnormal results, cervical cancer and the new vaccine recently approved by the FDA. You have probably heard a lot about HPV (Human Papillomavirus) on the news lately. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that 50% of women will have had HPV by age 50. For more information on this important topic, call the Childbirth and Family Education office (947-4537).
- The Fall 2007 I AM WOMAN featured our First Annual all women's 5K run. Our race logo was 'Look good, feel good, do good'. Our village featured healthy living information and local vendors. Proceeds benefitted the Children's Miracle Network.
- The Spring 2008 program featured Dr. Ron Fischer and was entitled "Celebrating A Woman's Sexual Health and Well-being . Attended by both men and women, the event was well received and provided pertinent information.
- The Second Annual 5K Run/Walk for women was held in October at the Peaks View Park course. Over 200 people registered. The day began with torrential rain but 100 girls and women still turned out for the event!
- The Spring 2009 program "GOT D?" featured Dr. David Cannon. Over 120 free vitamin D screenings were completed prior to the program. Over 200 people attended the event.
- The Third Annual 5K Run/Walk for women took place at Peaks View Park and again was a huge success.
